Safety Systems

Your Burro is equipped with multiple, overlapping safety systems to ensure safe interaction with people and the environment.

  • Emergency Stop Buttons & Safe-Stop Bumper Bar: Pressing a red Stop button or activating a Bumper Bar will immediately stop the Burro and engage the mechanical brakes. Note: This action only pauses the machine's movement; it does not cancel the current autonomous task. Once the stop condition is cleared, the Burro will attempt to resume its task.

  • Vision-Based Obstacle Detection & 3D LiDAR Sensor: These systems work together to detect obstacles in the Burro's path. The system will automatically slow or stop the Burro when an obstacle is detected.

  • Audible and Visual Alerts: The Burro uses a combination of beeps and flashing LED lights to signal its status.

    • LEDs Flash Once: The Burro is stopped due to a Stop Button or Bumper Bar activation.

    • LEDs Flash Twice: The Burro is stopped by its autonomous obstacle detection system.

    • Audio Beeps: The Burro's path is impeded by an obstacle.

  • Mechanical Brakes: All four motors on the Burro Grande are equipped with mechanical brakes that engage whenever a stop button or bumper bar is pressed, providing secure stopping power.

  • Traffic Management: To prevent collisions in multi-robot environments, this system is enabled by default. Burros will communicate with each other to avoid collisions at intersections and in narrow corridors. The system will slow or stop a Burro if the connection is weak or lost.
