Maintenance Procedures

Power Disconnect

Disconnect the batteries from the robot's electrical system before performing any maintenance or repair, opening the power or compute enclosures, servicing fuses, motors or wiring, or placing the robot into long-term storage.

WARNING: Electrical Hazard. The Grande 44 uses a 48V battery system capable of delivering very high current. Turning the power switch OFF does not isolate the batteries. Always complete the full disconnect procedure below before servicing. Wear insulating gloves and remove metal jewelry when working near battery connections.

Disconnecting Power

  1. Park and power off. Park the robot on a level surface. Turn the red power switch to OFF and wait at least 30 seconds for the system to fully shut down.

  2. Unplug the charger. Disconnect the charging cable, or move the robot off the charging dock.

  3. Open the bed. Release both bed latches using the white handles at the front left and front right of the robot. Lift the bed completely until the kickstand drops into place and holds it up.

  4. Disconnect the battery plugs. Locate the red and black Anderson plugs running from the batteries to the power enclosure. Pull each plug apart to disconnect it.

  5. Cap the battery-side plugs. Install the supplied dust caps on the battery-side red and black Anderson plugs. The caps can stay looped onto the plugs after service.

  6. Wait before servicing. Wait at least 15 seconds after disconnecting before touching any electrical components.

Reconnecting Power

  1. Confirm all service work is complete, all covers are reinstalled and no tools are left inside the robot.

  2. Remove the dust caps from the battery-side plugs and leave them looped onto the cables.

  3. Reconnect the black plug, then the red plug, pressing each firmly until fully seated.

  4. Lower the bed: lift the kickstand, then lower the bed using the handle on the side of the robot. Keep your hand on the handle; do not place your hand above or forward of the handle, as it can pinch your fingers. Lock both bed latches.

  5. Turn the power switch ON and confirm the UI loads with no fault codes.

Tire Care and Maintenance

Regularly check tire pressure to ensure optimal performance and localization.

Changing a Tire

note:

Tools Needed

  • Jack and jack stands rated for at least 2,000 lbs, or the robot's weight plus any payload, whichever is greater

  • Wheel chocks

  • Torque wrench

  • 21 mm socket

Park on a level surface1

Park the Burro on a hard, level surface.

Perform full shutdown and disconnect batteries2

Complete the shutdown procedure, then disconnect the batteries by following the Power Disconnect procedure in the Maintenance section.

Chock the opposite wheels3

Place wheel chocks on the wheels opposite the tire being changed.

Position the jack4

Set the jack under the designated jack point near the wheel.

Raise the Burro5

Lift until the tire clears the ground.

Secure with a jack stand6

Place a jack stand under the frame near the jack.

Remove lug nuts7

Use the 21 mm socket to remove and set aside the lug nuts.

Remove the old wheel8

Pull the wheel off the hub.

Mount the new wheel9

Place the new wheel on the hub and hand-tighten lug nuts.

Lower until tire touches ground10

Slowly lower the Burro until the tire just contacts the ground.

Torque the lug nuts11

Use the torque wrench to tighten lug nuts to 80 ft-lbs in a star pattern.

Lower completely and remove supports12

Lower the Burro fully, then remove the jack and jack stand.

Lifting and Hoisting

When lifting the machine, follow these safety procedures:

  • Use only designated hoist points on the frame (front and rear, between wheels).

  • Always support the Burro on jack stands; never rely on the jack alone.

Function Test after Maintenance

Elevate the Burro1

Raise the Burro so all wheels spin freely.

Power on and wait2

Turn on the machine and wait for the UI to load.

Test manual controls3

From a safe position, press Forward and Reverse on the yellow control panels to confirm correct wheel rotation.

Test Person Follow mode4

Activate Person Follow; verify wheel direction and beeps when you approach.

Lower and return to service5

Lower the Burro to the ground and resume operation.

Cleaning

warning:
