Modifications and Accessories

Your Burro Grande 44 is supported in the configuration it shipped in, plus Burro-approved attachments and accessories installed as described in Burro instructions. An accessory that fits, plugs in or powers up is not approved because it works. Anything else is a modification.

If you install a modification without written approval from Burro:

  • Burro and your dealer may ask you to remove it before troubleshooting any navigation, localization or connectivity problem.

  • It may void the warranty for failures it causes (see Warranty).

  • You are responsible for any hazard it creates. In the EU, a substantial modification makes the person who made it the manufacturer of the modified machine.

Never modify

  • DO NOT modify, move, cover or disable a stop button, bumper bar, safety edge, warning beacon, light, sound device or safety label.

  • DO NOT cover, move or re-aim the LiDAR, cameras or GNSS antennas, or the mast and sensor frame they sit on.

  • DO NOT drill, weld, clamp or bolt anything to the mast or sensor frame. [ENGINEERING: confirm whether any approved accessory point exists on the mast.]

  • DO NOT open the compute or power enclosures except to follow a Burro instruction.

  • DO NOT connect anything directly to the batteries or battery cables.

GNSS antennas need open sky

The two GNSS antennas on the mast must be the highest objects on the robot, with a clear view of the sky in every direction.

  • Nothing may be mounted above the GNSS antennas or at the same height beside them.

  • Keep radio transmitters (Starlink, LTE routers, two-way radios, video transmitters) at least [ENGINEERING: X m] from either GNSS antenna and below antenna height.

  • Do not run any cable along the mast or alongside the GNSS antenna cables.

  • If localization quality drops after you add anything to the robot, turn that equipment off and check again before contacting support.

Sensor view and robot footprint

The robot avoids obstacles based on its own shape. Anything that sticks out beyond it can hit a person or object the robot does not know about.

  • Nothing may extend beyond the robot's outline when viewed from above, or above [ENGINEERING: height] on the bed. [ENGINEERING: indoor envelope dimensions.]

  • Nothing may sit in the field of view of the LiDAR, cameras or bumper bars. [ENGINEERING: keep-out drawing.]

  • Do not build cages, frames or rails above the bed without Burro approval.

Loads and mounting on the bed

  • Mount equipment only to the bed hard points shown in [ENGINEERING: attachment interface drawing].

  • Stay within the rated payload of 1,500 lbs (680 kg), including the weight of any accessories.

  • Secure all equipment so it cannot shift, fall or swing during travel and turning.

Electrical connections

  • Power accessories only from the auxiliary power connector, following the Burro instructions for the accessory. [ENGINEERING: maximum continuous current, and whether aux stays live when a stop button is pressed.]

  • Fit an inline fuse on the positive lead, sized per the Burro instruction.

  • Do not route cables over the bumper bars, across moving parts, or where they can be pinched by the bed.

  • Route any cable into an enclosure only through a grommet, and reseal it so the enclosure stays weathertight (IP65 or better).

  • Do not connect an inverter or any 120 V / 230 V AC equipment. [ENGINEERING: confirm.]

Follow the Starlink Mini installation guide for the Grande 44 (Attachments & Accessories > Starlink Mini). A Starlink mounted above or beside the GNSS antennas is not supported. [ENGINEERING: approved mounting location and photos.]

Getting approval

To request approval for an accessory or change, send your dealer or Burro Customer Success what you want to add, its weight and power draw, where it will mount, and photos. Do not install it until you have written approval. Burro records approved changes against the robot's Unit ID Number.
